Did you know that it’s possible to be glasses-free without having eye surgery?
At Concord Eye Care, our optometrists are experienced Ortho-k practitioners and are also members of the Orthokeratology Society of Oceania (OSO).
Orthokeratology – or ortho-k for short – is a non-surgical, temporary and reversible treatment which is suitable for many patients with mild to moderate myopia (short-sightedness).
Ortho-k has been around since the mid 1960’s. It’s a great option for people who want to be free of their glasses or contact lenses during the day.
Individually-designed rigid contact lenses are worn overnight to reshape the cornea gently whilst you sleep. This corrects short-sightedness and small amounts of astigmatism. The following morning, you will be able to see without using your glasses and this effect generally lasts for the entire day.
What are the benefits?
There are many! Freedom from glasses and contact lenses is the main attraction for most patients but ortho-k is also:
- Great for slowing or stopping myopia in children and teenagers
- Great for sportspeople
- Great for boosting self-confidence and appearance, particularly for teens
- Great for people working in dusty, dirty, steamy environments (tradespeople, chefs)
- Great for people prone to allergies and irritation from conventional contact lenses use
Are you a good candidate for Ortho-k lenses?
If you have low to moderate myopia, you are most likely a good candidate for ortho-k treatment.
At Concord Eye Care, we assess your suitability for ortho-k by taking digital topographical maps of your eye’s surface.
This quick and pain-free procedure enables us to individually design the correct ortho-k lenses for you.
Is Ortho-k suitable for children?
Now, more than ever, Ortho-k is being used to treat the progression of myopia in children and teens.
Ortho-k has proven results in slowing down or stopping the rate of myopia progression in children.
